Joe's Garage are three musicians -Victor Purkiss, Michael Whiticker and Joe Toppi, who after 30 years in the business are still passionate about original songs and the search for the muse, wherever it takes them.
These songs represent different facets of the group. Victor's four songs were written in the 90’s, Michael's four songs come from two creative periods, one in the late 70's and one in the late 90's, and the band songs developed from improvisatory sessions in 2000 and 2001.
This recording was made between January and April 2001 in the Music Studios in COMVAT at James Cook University with engineering and production by Michael Whiticker, and a special thank you to guest performers Michael Faragher (winds) and Steven Campbell (bass on two of the tracks), who were fellow academics in COMVAT at the time.
Joe’s Garage is unfortunately no longer active as Victor has moved to Sydney to further his work as a lawyer and Michael and Joe busy themselves with a range of other music activities, only sometimes finding the time to play together. Nevertheless, lovers of latin-jazz-folk-country-rock fusion might just enjoy this recording.
